The American Heart Association offers these suggestions:
Watch your intake of red meat (beef, lamb and pork), which contains saturated fats and cholesterol.
Skinless poultry, chicken, fish (especially salmon) and vegetable proteins are healthier choices.
Beans, split peas, lentils and black-eyed peas are cholesterol-free protein choices.
Cook meat by baking, grilling or broiling, and trim off visible fat before cooking.
